Charly Bordier begins his review of the 750 mm Derbee Corsair by quoting the TV series Baa Baa Black Sheep. Having already been won over by the flying qualities of the 800 mm Skyraider tested in issue 877 of Modèle Magazine, it was only natural to move on to the Corsair, which is also available in two colours. The test focuses on the “sand” décor, a radical departure from the “Navy” blue most often reproduced, which corresponds to a “Marines” décor.
The author provides a comprehensive overview of the kit, which he finds to be well-detailed and equipped with a variety of optional accessories.
The only minor issue during assembly was straightening a slightly warped stabiliser by adding a small carbon rod. The rest is a mere formality, taking just a few minutes.
A choice must be made when fitting the fittings, which must be glued in place if the instructions are followed. However, the author preferred to make small modifications to enable them to be removed, which demonstrates that, when it comes to ARTF models, just because they are ready-made does not mean that nothing can be done!
To fly, you have the choice between taking off from the ground on a hard runway or throwing it by hand. Once airborne, the Corsair proves to be lively and very responsive, so it is advisable to avoid a heavy tail CG and apply a good amount of expo to achieve precise trajectories.
The conclusion speaks for itself: "Craquant"! Charly says that the Derbee warbird range offers a low-cost way of enjoying warbirds with several people, and why not around pylons with or without a few streamers!
