Interclub event in Massilly

Interclub event at Massilly

France - Saône et Loire
June 15, 2025

Aéro Massilly 71 is a modest model airplane club based in Saône et Loire (France), on a communal leisure area. Around twenty pilots usually meet on Saturday afternoons to share good times flying their models, with the more experienced helping the others to fine-tune their radios and planes, or giving flying lessons to beginners.

On a short 50 x 6-meter paved runway, bordered by grassy areas suitable to landing models without landing gear, the models, planes, gliders and motorgliders are generally of a very reasonable size, and club members are particularly fond of the FMS range, and in particular the Piper PA-18 1700 or 1300 mm, of which there are almost fifteen on record!

Every year, the club organizes an interclub meeting, without involving the public, as the configuration of the site makes it impossible to obtain the necessary administrative authorizations. Members of other clubs in the region are simply invited to come and share a day of conviviality, meetings, discussions and, of course, lots of flights, on a Sunday in June.

And every year, a raffle is offered to participants, so that for the purchase of one of the 60 squares of a board at a more than affordable price (€2), many can walk away with a souvenir of the day.

This year, two companies from the world of model hobby had provided a large number of gifts, ranging from “goodies” to kits, and a few club members had generously provided additional prizes to ensure that all 60 squares on the board were winners - a first for this 2025 edition. Those companies were Beez2B, FMS kits distributor so present on this site, as well as the much-appreciated SkyRC chargers, and Silence Model, a French craftsman whose laser-cut airplane and glider kits are well known and also very present in the fleets of Aéro Massilly 71 members.

Sunday June 15, 2025, after a week of fine, very warm weather, was unfortunately followed by a night of thunderstorms, and the weather forecast was not very optimistic, with a very active cloud streak forecast... This undoubtedly made a few modelers hesitate, but in the end, for many, the well-known conviviality of this event overcame the forecasts, and modelers from Chalon-sur-Saône, Mâcon, Feillens, Beaune, Moroge, Le Creusot and even a participant from the Mouettes club (Paris region almost 400 km away! ) accepted the invitation.

In the end, the weather left us in peace in the morning, with two showers but “at the right time”, i.e. during the aperitif and lunchtime when everyone could take refuge under the shelter of the recreation area. In the afternoon, the air became dry (and warm) again, with even some fine sunny spells! Only a moderate westerly wind made the flights a little bumpy, but no breakages were reported.

The 60 raffle boxes were sold out by midday, and the draw took place at 4 p.m., with the display of prizes taking up the entire long counter of the shelter. First prize was a Futura 64mm EDF PNP kit from FMS donated by Beez2B, the other main prizes were Silence Model laser kits and a retro glider model short kit donated by a club member. Then came a host of goodies, including FMS and SkyRC polo shirts and T-shirts, FMS waterproof bags, Silence Model laser-cut wooden tools (squares, rib combs, sanding wedges), FMS mouse pads and stand mats, and small model aircraft kits for rehearsing aerobatic programs, laser-cut by a club member.

The winner of the grand prize (the Futura) is a pilot from Beaune who is a regular at the event, flying a Super EZ V4 FMS on a daily basis! The Futura will be his first EDF jet. A week later, he was present with his Futura at a similar event in Le Creusot, some 50 kilometers further north.

All participants in the raffle received their prizes, and everyone had a big smile on their face!

At the end of the afternoon, everyone headed home with the firm intention of being there again in June 2026!

So, despite a pessimistic weather forecast, the day was a great success, and the club would like to thank its two generous sponsors, Beez2B and Silence Model, for their superb prizes.

See you next year!
