Review of the FMS 90mm EDF Avanti


This review was written by Yann Moindrot, the editor-in-chief of Modèle Magazine.
He tested the '6S' version, fitted with the 'vector nozzle' option. Six pages are devoted to this impressive yet easy-to-fly jet.

The servos and wing landing gear actually connect automatically when the wings are attached to the fuselage.

The pull-arm suspension landing gear is fitted with high-quality wheels mounted on ball bearings.



The two-piece fuselage not only reduces the length for transport but also allows you to switch from the standard version to the thrust vectoring version, which is sold separately.
Ballast is provided in this case to adjust the centre of gravity, since the rear fuselage with the thrust vectoring nozzle and dedicated servos is, of course, heavier than the standard model.

However, the tester found that, with this ballast, the model lacked manoeuvrability, particularly during 3D manoeuvres. He removed it, but had to use a receiver with gyros to keep the plane controllable with a significantly rearward centre of gravity.



For hovering, 6S LiHV batteries are preferable to LiPo batteries, which provide barely enough thrust. The 8S turbine option provides all the necessary power reserve!



"This Avanti is a great jet. It’s beautiful and well finished, with impressive power, and a pleasure to fly. For those looking for something new, the optional thrust vectoring system is a real bonus. Although it requires the use of a gyroscope, it improves low-speed performance and enables some unusual manoeuvres. You’ll have to adopt new habits with a model that has high wing loading – you have to be careful in certain configurations – but it’s awesome!"
